About HAMRAH Network

The HAMRAH Network was launched in early 2023 to strengthen Afghan civil society, particularly women-led organisations, which were forced into exile after the Taliban takeover of 2021. HAMRAH is currently hosted by Global Dialogue.

HAMRAH’s vision is of an Afghanistan in which all are included – where those who have been silenced or sidelined are at the centre of civic and political transformation and are empowered to shape a more just, democratic future.

Our mission is to contribute to building a resilient Afghan civil society, enabling them to work towards this more inclusive and just future – one where all Afghans have a voice, are heard, are protected, and have agency over their lives, their communities, and the future of their country.

We do this by:

  • Building resilience through tailored capacity building and accompaniment we help build a resilient, cohesive, coordinated Afghan civil society able to respond to current and future challenges.
  • Acting as a multiplier by facilitating exchanges and dialogue and supporting collaboration among our members and broader Afghan and non-Afghan civil society we strengthen collective impact.
  • Acting as an amplifier through joint research, analysis and advocacy HAMRAH strengthens the voice of Afghan civil society, especially women, people with disabilities, LGBTQI+ people, ethnic and religious minorities.

Organisational Capacity Building

HAMRAH offers a range of technical support and mentoring tailored to each of its member’s specific needs from legal assistance, operational and administrative support, and specialised trainings – from communications and fundraising to donor compliance and due diligence –helping our members to become stronger and more impactful.

Joint Advocacy and Networking

HAMRAH Network supports its members to develop and implement individual and joint advocacy strategies and provides a platform for their collective voices. Our joint advocacy is informed by  the expertise and experience of our  members gained through their work with women and girls, people with disabilities, LGBTIQ+ persons and other marginalised groups in Afghanistan and aimed at ensuring that international policy, funding and programs address the priorities and needs of the communities that our members work with.

Cross Learning and Knowledge Sharing

We create opportunities for shared learning and for building solidarity. By facilitating events to connect Afghan CSOs with peers from the Global South, our exchanges foster alliance-building, sharing of strategies and tactics, collective action for social change, and mutual support and inspiration.

Mentorship and Guidance

Each of our members is connected with a volunteer mentor who provides tailored professional expertise and socio-cultural support. These mentors draw on their own experience and networks to support cohort members to survive and thrive in their host country.

Latest from HAMRAH

While global sympathy for Afghans—especially women and girls—remains, attention on Afghanistan has waned amidst new conflicts and global crises. To bring the spotlight back and push for meaningful policy shifts, our cohort is stepping up, speaking out, and ensuring the world does not look away.
