Nimrokh Media: Documenting the Lives, Struggles, and Resistance of Afghan Women

The story of Nimrokh is one of courage, persistence, and truth-telling. Founded and led by Fatima Roshanian, an Afghan journalist who turned her personal experience of discrimination and defiance into a platform for women’s voices. Today, Nimrokh has become a vital source of independent news and information about the experience of women under Taliban rule.

Established in 2017, first as a weekly print newspaper and now as a digital media outlet, Nimrokh has evolved into a powerful archive of Afghan women’s lives. At a time when the Taliban are seeking to erase women from public life, Nimrokh continues its work from exile to document not only their struggles but also their resilience, courage, and daily acts of defiance.

Today, Nimrokh stands as:
• A chronicler of women’s protests and acts of resistance.
• A producer of fearless, bilingual journalism in Persian and English.
• A platform for visibility, dignity, and solidarity for women inside Afghanistan and across the diaspora.

As Fatima Roshanian movingly explains:

“Every woman in Afghanistan carries her own book of pain. From this understanding Nimrokh was born.”

Through its reporting and storytelling Nimrokh gives Afghan women agency over their own narratives — preserving their voices against efforts to silence them and ensuring that the world continues to bear witness.
